[SONG REVIEW]: Jim James – “I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times”

I’m going to be straight up with you folks – I hate covers. In the past, I’ve attributed this hatred to the idea that covering someone else’s famous song was just a cheap and easy way to get attention, using an already winning method.

Sure, like the rest of the living population, I’ve snapped along to Johnny Cash’s upbeat rendition of “Hurt” – hell, who hasn’t?! But like I said, I’ve always just viewed covers as a cheap way to get attention.

That is, until now…

Ooooh, drama!

Thanks to My Morning Jacket frontman and solo artist Jim James, I’m now discovering that covers aren’t necessarily knock-offs, but rather, tributes to some of the greatest music ever composed.

He recently announced a new tribute album, entitled Tribute To 2, and released a refreshing version of The Beach Boys 1966 track “I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times” to spread the word.

Needless to say, it’s a must-listen for anyone with a set of ears.

Tribute To 2 is currently available for pre-order.
